Ex-CJN Idris Kutigi dies in London

Previous Chief Justice of Nigeria Idris Kutigi passed on in a London healing facility on Sunday after a short ailment, his oldest child, Sani Kutigi has affirmed.

Kutigi affirmed the passing in a phone meeting with the News Agency of Nigeria in Minna on Sunday.

"We are making plans to transport our dad back for burial," he said.

Late Kutigi was conceived on Dec. 31, 1939, and left behind 18 kids and more than 40 grandkids.

He was the Chief Justice of Nigeria from Jan. 30, 2007 until Dec. 30 2009.

Equity Kutigi filled in as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Niger State until 1976, when he was selected High Court judge.

He served in that situation for over 10 years and later joined the Supreme Court in 1992.

Following 10 years at the Supreme Court, in view of the proposal of the National Judicial Council, previous President Olusegun Obasanjo named him to the situation of Chief Justice to succeed Justice Salihu Alfa Belgore, who resigned on January 17, 2007.
