STRIKE: Polytechnics Academic Staff Union To Commence Indefinite Strike, December 12

STRIKE: Polytechnics Academic Staff Union To Commence Indefinite Strike, December 12

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has stated that they would begin an Indefinite strike from the 12th of December.

This implies that the lecturer in Nigerian polytechnics would join their universities colleagues who have been on strike for a month.

Usman Duste, the national president of the ASUP, said that the federal government has failed to also fulfill the promises it made to its body.

Preceding this impending strike, the association had on October 2 issued a 21-day final proposal to the government before it postponed it to November. Be that as it may, after all that it didn't commence the strike.

He said that the strike would be " total and indefinite ".

This further emphasises the resolution of the 93rd National Executive Council meeting reached at the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos last week,” he said.
“Government has failed to implement and fulfil agreements it reached with the union as contained in the memorandum of understanding signed,” he said.
ASUP went on strike in November 2017; however when the federal government reached an agreement to execute the suggestions of the 2014 NEEDS appraisal, the strike was suspended 15 days after.

The agreement emphasizes on the need of increased funding of polytechnics.
